LG boasts one million Optimus One phones sold in 40 days
Today LG announced that their Optimus One has sold one million units in just 40 days, becoming the fastest selling handset in the company’s history. This Android 2.2 device can be found online for free (with contract) and is currently available on Sprint and T-Mobile and coming soon to U.S. Cellular and Verizon.

Normally we down-play the “entry-level” Android phones since they ship with outdated versions of Google’s OS, but LG refers to the Optimus One as a transitional device since it features Android 2.2 and can run all the same apps as the high-end phones.

Dr. Jong-seok Park, President and CEO of LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company said, “The versatile, powerful LG Optimus One was designed to provide an easy transition into the world of smartphones and as these numbers demonstrate, there is obviously a strong demand for this type of device . Optimus One seems to be what many customers were waiting for, proving that smartphones aren’t just for early adopters anymore.”

We have recently been playing with the international version of the Optimus One (LG-P500) and I can easily say it is the best low-priced Android phone for someone looking to transition into their first smartphone. I’ve been impressed with the performance LG squeezed out of the 600 MHz processor and the 1500 mAh battery runs for days.
