The Nikon NF-300i isn’t your everyday digital photo frame for more than a few reasons. Aside from the fact that it runs Android 2.1, the picture viewer will convert any of your 2D photos to glasses-less 3D through Nikon’s My Picturetown online storage service.
The frame features a 7.2-inch LCD screen using the same technology found in lenticular 3D screens found on some Fujifilm cameras at a resolution of 800×600. The 3D effect is good from up to a meter away. Other hardware includes built-in wireless LAN, an ethernet, and USB ports. In addition to 2D and 3D images, the NF-300i picture frame can also play 3D movies.
The pricing isn’t exactly easy to swallow, however. For what amounts to $240 a year the frame can be rented with an additional cost to convert images to 3D. Much of that cost probably goes with the online storage service, but if you only want to pay for image conversion you can buy the frame upfront at an unknown price and pay $25 a month to get your pictures third-dimensionalized. But you probably don’t have to worry about this thing ever being available outside of Japan anyway.
