Netflix is already available on the iOS and Windows Phone 7 and so far these are the only mobile platforms the application offers support for but there are also plans for Android (we heard of these sinceJuly and August).
Greg Peters from Netflix development said that "the lack of a generic and complete platform security and content protection mechanism available for Android" were the main reasons the application is not yet available, "the same security issues that have led to piracy concerns on the Android platform have made it difficult for us to secure a common Digital Rights Management (DRM) system on these devices". While Netflix doesn't have a common platform security mechanism and DRM, the company is planning to work directly with device manufacturers in order to offer some sort of content protection.
Those being said, Netflix announced that the Android application will be available on select Android devices starting early 2011 - depending on the discussions with manufacturers we might ad - but there definitely is a plan to release a generic application as Netflix is talking to the developer community, manufacturers and carriers to find the proper solution.
