NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) -- General Motors said total vehicle sales rose 4% in October, driven by strength in demand for Buick and GMC models.
After adjusting for discontinued brands such as Hummer, Pontiac, Saturn and Saab, GM said combined sales of its remaining brands, including Chevrolet, Buick, GMC and Cadillac, were up 13% versus October of 2009.
The increase in sales topped forecasts from sales trackers Edmunds.com and TrueCar, who had expected total sales to fall in the month.
On Tuesday, automakers including Hyundai and Subaru reported record sales gains for October.
Sales reports are due later Wednesday from Ford (F, Fortune 500), Toyota (TM), Honda (HMC) and Chrysler. The major automakers delayed the release of their sales figures by one day because of the U.S. midterm elections.
