Blekko Promises to Challenge Google, Bing in Search Market

Blekko launched Nov. 1, promising a new, curated form of search customized by its users, with an assist from the type of machine-generated algorithm search giants Google, Yahoo and Microsoft Bing employ. Blekko users create slashtags, which help them search only the sites users want. This cuts out the spam of irrelevant information and links associated with the classic search engines. Blekko users create their own slashtags, allowing them to set up directories of information in a few vertical areas so that they can come back to them later and let other people see them. Once the slashtags are set up with relevant keywords and populated with target Websites, users can search only the favorite Websites they desire. Blekko has targeted specific verticals for the initial launch, including health, recipes, song lyrics, hotels, automobiles, colleges and personal finance. Expect more to come as the service picks up momentum. That will be quite a challenge versus Google and Bing, but we're game to give it a shot.
