Google Maps 4.6 brings real-time Latitude to Android

Google Maps has seen an overnight update, taking the Android app to v4.6 and throwing in features like (optional) real-time Latitude updates.  There’s also a redesign for Place pages, looking more like their desktop equivalents and having separate sections for expert and user reviews, together with the ability to filter through some search results according to neighborhood, related searches and even which businesses are currently open.

Unfortunately the really interesting part, real-time Latitude, demands that both users be running Google Maps 4.6 on Android 2.2 Froyo devices, which could limit its usefulness considering the number of handsets running earlier versions of the OS.  Everything else will be available to anybody running Android 1.6 or higher, and is available through the Android Market.
